About

EpiNav - community application to support those at times of fatal anaphlaxis utilising users to notify to come help.

NHS EpiNav is a community-driven emergency response network designed to bridge the fatal “response gap” in anaphylaxis care. In the UK, hospital admissions for anaphylaxis are rising by 7.1% annually, yet the average Category 1 ambulance response time of 8–12 minutes often exceeds the critical 5-minute survival window.  To address this, the project crowdsources life-saving intervention by connecting victims to a “hidden army” of 2.5 million existing EpiPen users. The core solution is a peer-to-peer mobile application featuring a Live Rescue Map. When a user triggers an emergency alert, nearby verified responders are notified via hyper-local geofencing and provided with precision GPS routing to the victim’s location. To ensure clinical safety, the app includes a “Digital Vault” where responders register their device lot numbers and expiry dates, ensuring only valid medication is dispatched.  The project’s feasibility is backed by primary research showing that 100% of surveyed EpiPen users would respond to a nearby life-threatening alert. Furthermore, the network is supplemented by “Postbox” lockers—temperature-controlled public infrastructure placed in high-footfall areas like airports and stations. By integrating with emergency services and providing bystander guidance, NHS EpiNav transforms a crowd of strangers into a synchronized rescue network, significantly increasing the chances of survival during the “Golden Hour” of anaphylaxis.
